About Coaching

1. What is coaching?

Coaching integrates principles from the fields of education, psychology, business, and personal transformation. Your coach serves as your personal consultant, partner, sounding board, and confidante, championing you to improve your effectiveness and achieve your goals. Your coach partners with you to improve your focus, to hold yourself accountable, and celebrate your successes

Personal coaching can benefit just about anyone who has a desire to accomplish new and different things in life. Young and old alike find that coaching has made significant changes the way they approach problems, challenges and opportunities as well as a tool to reach their goals and fulfill their dreams.

2. What is the coaching process?

  1. First, you and your coach determine what goals you want to accomplish.
  2. Together, you develop a plan for how to realize these goals.
  3. On a regular basis, you talk with your coach about the steps you have taken/will soon be taking to implement your plan. If you become frustrated along the way, your coach is there to motivate you. If your plan needs revising, your coach helps you think through what changes to make. If you set objectives but then don't fulfill them, your coach is there to keep you accountable and/or redirect you onto a new course to follow.
  4. When your goals are met, your coach is there to celebrate you successes.

3. How is coaching different from other support I might get?

Coaching will help you develop and implement life plans and skills and provide the motivation and support you need on your way to achieving your goals. Coaching is not therapy. Those looking to reflect on the past or deal with a current personal crisis should seek the help of a trained therapist. Unlike well meaning friends and significant others, coaches will always tell you the truth and work solely on YOUR goals and accomplishments.

The CoachLink Certification Process

Unlike other referral services, CoachLink coaches must meet specific education and work history criteria. Only coaches with the highest qualifications and credentials are invited to join the CoachLink network.

Each of our coaches meets the following minimum criteria:

  • Minimum of two years of professional coaching experience
  • Minimum of one year as a coachee
  • Verified academic and professional credentials
  • A clean criminal record
  • Minimum of three client references and one peer coach reference

CoachLink utilizes a third-party credential verification company and our own staff to screen each candidate and to ensure they meet our qualification criteria. We personally interview each candidate coach to evaluate their communications and interpersonal skills. 1. What happens after I submit my Coach request?

2. How do I select the right Coach to meet my needs?

We recommend a the following five step process to find the right Coach:

  1. Identify clearly what you wish to accomplish with the help of a Coach. This step will help you determine the ideal experience and background your Coach should have. Be aware that it may make more sense to select a Coach with a different background than yours, because he or she is strong in the area in which you want to grow.
  2. Rank the importance of attributes such as professional and personal experience, education, communication style, outlook on life and interests.
  3. Conduct a telephone interview with each of the Coaches recommended by CoachLink. This will give you insight and provide you with an opportunity to experience the Coach firsthand and to get a feel for the Coach's style.
  4. Ask questions about what matters most to you. Is the Coach a good listener? Does the Coach hear what you are saying, as well as what you are not communicating verbally? Does the Coach have experience in coaching others in the areas where you desire to expand? Ask the Coach if she or he can adapt her or his style to meet your needs. Do you prefer a more "passive" or "proactive" style in your interactions with the Coach? An experienced Coach should be able to flex her or his style to meet your needs.
  5. Now, regardless of what a Coach looks like on paper, you want to make sure the chemistry is right. To be sure of this, you'll need to trust your intuition. How do you know if the chemistry is right? Well, you should be able to feel very excited about the prospect of working with your chosen Coach!

[ Top ]

4. How do I know I am paying a competitive fee for coaching services?

On our interview form, we ask your desired price range and provide then you with a choice of coaches whose fees are within your range. We suggest that you request a bid/proposal prior to selecting a coach as well as a contract with the coach that you ultimately select. All fees and terms should be clearly stated on bids and contracts as well as the scope of services to be provided.

[ Top ]

5. What if I change my mind during an engagement and want to cancel a contract?

The decision to stop an engagement is between you and the coach. However, you should expect to pay for services provided up to that point. In the event of a cancellation, we ask that you return to the CoachLink website to close your engagement and complete your Ratings & Reviews survey.

6. Will CoachLink remove a professional coach from its database upon receiving a customer complaint?

Your feedback is vital to the quality of service our coaches provide. However, as with any grievance process, we first evaluate both sides before making a final decision. Often, an unpleasant experience is the result of a simple misunderstanding between the two parties. However, if there is a negative trend against the professional Coach, we do reserve the right to remove a service professional from our network.
